Thomas Jarka

Thomas joined the laborers union in 1983, starting at Bethlehem Steel Burns Harbor, where he performed maintenance work in a variety of areas including coke batteries, pickle lines, blast furnaces, and vacuum degassers. In 1996 he became a General Laborer Foreman for Kvaerner Songer. While there he worked on two major blast furnace outages. In 2006 he began as Laborer Superintendent for Songer Services. Four years later he was promoted to General Manager.
A 24-year volunteer firefighter, Thomas played an essential part in introducing the Safety Task Planners at Kvaerner Songer during the 1990s. He holds certifications in OSHA 10 & 30 training, Hazmat training, and CPR training
