Western Pennsylvanian Industrial General Contractor Songer Services Wins National Photo Contest And Cover Story From The Construction User Magazine

Blast Furnace Reline Wins Songer TAUC Cover Story

PITTSBURGH, PA — For Songer Services, a fifth-generation heavy industrial general contractor based in Washington, PA; a picture is worth almost 1,000 words—675 to be exact. Songer recently won a national photo contest sponsored by The Construction User Magazine, the quarterly trade publication distributed by The Association of Union Constructors (TAUC).

The winning photo earned Songer Services the magazine’s cover and an internal feature article about the union manpower necessary to deliver a blast furnace reline project seven days ahead of schedule for Arcelor Mittal in Indiana Harbor, Indiana—North America’s largest blast furnace.

“For us to be the winning photo and earn a TAUC cover story is icing on the cake for a job well done,” said Songer Services Vice President of Operations, Gregg Preteroti. “Over 300 union craftsmen from eight different building trades, plus a score of Songer Services project leads, general foreman, foreman, and engineers collectively busted their tails for seven months between prep and work time for the project.”

The winning entry features a towering crawler crane installation framed by a deep blue sky at the Arcelor Mittal jobsite for Songer Services’ blast furnace reline project in 2014. The accompanying feature article details the complexity and challenges of planning and coordination for hundreds of union craftsmen across a time-sensitive, multi-million dollar, seven-month project window.

“When you look at this issue of the magazine, you see all the remarkable images from union-driven labor for integrated steel manufacturers across the country, delivered by a number of great companies,” added Preteroti. “You’re proud to be included in this group—and even more proud to have a coordinated project photo and story that leads the pack.”
