Reline of #7 Blast Furnace - Arcelor Mittal Indiana - Harbor, Indiana
Reline of #7 Blast Furnace at Arcelor Mittal, Indiana Harbor, Indiana from June - July 2014. Repair scope performed was designed to create 12 years of campaign life to the furnace—the largest blast furnace in North America producing 13,000 tons of iron daily.
Project included six rows of staves, a new Paul Wurth Top, and significant repairs to the tap holes hearth wall and hot blast main. Songer’s proprietary scaffolds and hoist monorail system were key in maintaining and beating the critical path schedule—allowing us to complete the project two days ahead of schedule.
As noted in the project description, we completed the project 2 days ahead of schedule—48 critical extra hours of operation for a furnace cranking out 13,000 tons of iron daily. The massive 2,800 ton cranes used to remove and replace the furnace top and structure were flawless.
