Songer’s Lauren Culbertson Moderates Panel at AIST Women of Steel Conference
Indianapolis, IN — September 24, 2025 — Songer Services is proud to announce that Lauren Culbertson, Vice President of Engineering, was invited to serve as moderator for a panel discussion at the Association for Iron & Steel Technology’s (AIST) Women of Steel Conference.
The annual event brings together professionals from across the steel industry to promote advocacy, mentorship, and inclusion for women in a field that has historically been male-dominated. This year’s conference drew a strong turnout, with attendees actively engaging in sessions focused on advancing diversity, equity, and opportunity across all levels of the industry.
Culbertson moderated the panel discussion “Allies in Steel: Men and Women Building a Stronger Industry Together”, featuring:
- Calvin Hart, Vice President & General Manager, Nucor Steel Louisiana
- Tom Katagis, General Manager Plate and Strip, Algoma Steel Inc.
- Sebastian Kukla, Digital Transformation North America, RHI Magnesita
The panel examined the crucial role that male leaders play in supporting and advancing women within the steel sector. Panelists shared their own experiences, discussed barriers women face in the workplace, and outlined actionable programs their organizations have developed to foster a more inclusive workforce.
“The Women of Steel Conference showcases how much progress the industry has made, while underscoring the work still ahead,” said Culbertson. “It was a privilege to help lead a discussion with industry leaders who are committed to creating meaningful opportunities for women and building a stronger, more diverse steel industry together.”
Songer Services commends Culbertson’s leadership and her continued advocacy within the Association for Iron & Steel Technology (AIST), where she has served in various capacities throughout her career.
